| Perissa
My next stop was Santorini. I had heard great things about this island but it is one of those places best to see it than to hear or read about it. I stayed in a town called Perissa at the youth hostel. It was probably one of the worst of all that I have stayed, but I am guessing there will be more at this level before I am done. I had planned to meet up with a guy named Chris that I had met in Athens and we wound up spending about 3 days just wandering around the island. Santorini
I decided to take an all day tour of the island and it was a lot of fun. We were transported to the port where boarded a boat that would be our transportation for most of the day. Volcano
Our first stop was the volcano in the middle of the Santorini islands. The islands, if all above water would form a circle, the rest is under the ocean floor. There is an inactive volcano at the middle of the ring that where we hiked to the top to see the great views. Mud Bath
Next stop was the mud baths. We swam from the boat over to the hot springs that are actually a mud bath. The water got considerably warmer and browner as we swam in. The mud is supposed to be great for your skin. The only thing it did for me was get me very dirty and stain my white t-shirt that I wore the rest of the day very brown! Boat trip cont.
View from the boat looking back up the island. Oia
Next stop was the city of Oia which is famous for its sunsets. We had a chance to wander around the city and then went to a rooftop café and had a bite to eat while the sun set. It was a great cap to a wonderful day on Santorini. Pictures of Santorini
Here are a few pictures of the island that show its beauty. Of course pictures are not as nice as being there, but I hope you get the idea. Picture 2
