Paros--August 19-21, 2005

Aliki

My next stop on the island tour was Paros. I spent 2 nights here and did some more relaxing (is there anything else to do in Greece?). I arrived at my hostel in Aliki to find that I was not staying at the hostel, but at a small hotel down the road since the hostel was booked. It actually worked out well, with 2 other Americans sharing the room with me.

Aliki was a small fishing village that seemed to be popular with families. There was a small beach and a number of nice relaxing Tavernas (restaurants).

Aliki

This was the first place that I saw what became normal to see during the course of my travels in Greece. Octopus is caught locally and then hung to dry. They also do this with different types of fish. After they dry, they are most often put on the grill and served with french fries.

Parissa

Parissa is the port city which comes to life at night. It has a large Hora (main old section) in the town that has shops, restaurants, and clubs and it is the place to go in the evening. The majority of the buildings are painted white with blue trim which is a standard in a lot of the islands.
