Tallest Mountain in NZ
My next stop took me to Mt. Cook which stands 3755 meters (12319 feet) high. This picture shows Mt. Cook on my drive into town. The lake in the front is Lake Pukaki. Twizel
I stayed outside a small town called Twizel which is about 60k from Mt. Cook. It was a pretty cool place to stay because it is a working sheep farm, as you can see. This picture taken just 100 meters from the front door to my room. I have already met a few sheep farmers in my travels here. Definitely hard work, but they all seem to love what they do. Mt Cook cont.
I spent a full day at Mt. Cook and I could not have asked for better weather. I got up and drove to the base of the mountain and picked a walk for the day. It was up to Hooker Valley and took about 4 hours walking in total. Check out the great views along the way. Mt Cook...
More views as I got closer to the mountain. Hooker Valley
I made it to Hooker Valley with Hooker Lake in front and a stunning view of the mountains behind. Helicopter
I have always wanted to go on a helicopter ride and thought that since the weather was so perfect (close to 50 degrees F) and the sun was shining brightly that this was the time to do it. The helicopter flew us up to the top of Fox Glacier where we had a walk around. Pretty cooooollllll!!!!! Fox Glacier
View from the top of Fox Glacier.... much different from the view from the bottom. View from Helicopter
Here is a view of the lake through the helicopter window. Select another page || Go to Home Page
