| Sydney--February 22-28, 2006
My next stop is Sydney in Australia. I had a long flight to get here. Was rerouted through Auckland in New Zealand and arrived in Sydney about 8 hours later than planned and to top it off my luggage did not make it until the next day. At least this time they compensated me with $100 in cash for my inconvenience (Russian airlines should be so kind!!!).
My first real view of the city was a great skyline. I walked through the botanical gardens to get this view of the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Bridge Climb
On my first day I did one of those must do's when in Sydney. I climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It is about 3 1/2 hours in all including instruction and suiting up. They are very conscientious of safety and made for a safe trip for what felt like being on top of the city!
Here is me all suited up and ready to go. Bridge Climb

They provide everyone with jump suits so that you don't have any loose clothing that will get caught on anything. Climbing the Bridge
Here are some pictures of other people climbing the bridge. In the first picture they are at the bottom of the right side and up on top by the flags. The flags mark mid point of the bridge. and more climbing
Safety gear was a must on the climb. The top is 134 meters from the water. There were about 1700 steps in all and we walked about 1.7 kilometers during the climb. Can't Beat the View!
Here I am at the top with the Opera House as a background. Mom and Dad Arrive
After I had already left on my trip my parents decided that they should meet me somewhere along they way. Since they have been into cruising lately they decided to fly to New Zealand and then take a cruise from NZ to Sydney with stops along the way. They met me in Sydney on the 25th of February and it was great to see them after all this time! They enjoyed the cruise and were ready to see the sights that Oz has to offer and I was happy to go along for the ride (thanks Mom and Dad!!!)
We spent a few more days in Sydney seeing everything we could. We went on a tour of the Opera House which is a spectacular building both from the inside and the outside. Bondi Beach
Also went to the famous Bondi beach. Didn't get to go surfing (no Floridian in their right mind would go in water that temperature!!!) Great skyline
Also went on a ferry across the sound and had some spectacular views of Sydney Harbor. Sydney at night
And of course had to see the Opera House all lit up at night! What a view! Select another page || Go to Home Page
